Free Download Proteus Version is easy to use and has powerful features that make it easier than ever to create, test, and professionally lay out PCBs. With a world-class shape-based autoroute, one of the easiest professional PCB layout packages on the market, and nearly 800 microcontroller variants that can be simulated right from the schematic, Proteus Design Suite 8 is the complete software package for engineers today and tomorrow. The schematic capture and PCB layout tools in Proteus PCB Design products are made to be simple and powerful.
During the design process, tools like a world-class shaped-based autoroute, 3D visualization, automatic net tuning, design snippets, and assembly versions help you save time. A strong design rule system, on the other hand, makes sure that your PCB follows all the rules and clearances that you need. The tracks are fully planned out, and direction-aware and live clearance checking make it easy to find and fix any problems.
Features of Proteus:
- Push and Shove Routing: Now there are two main location mods: Push mode and the old-school FMR mode. The first one lets the route being placed move other tracks (and possibly vias) out of the way. The second one is more like a hug mode; it follows design rule clearances but doesn’t touch other PCB objects. You can easily switch between styles at any time with keyboard shortcuts.
- DRC Aware Route Editing: By default, editing tracks now takes into account all design rules. This makes it easy to make the most of the board room you have and keep the layout neat. You can turn this off with a computer shortcut or in the Route Command Center.
- Route Command Centre: In Proteus Full Version, the Route Command Center is where you can put routes, edit them, and set up Visual DRC. From the Tools Menu or, more often, the ‘R’ computer shortcut can be used to open it. The important thing is that the keyboard shortcut can open the dialogue box while you are putting or editing a route. This means that you can change the routing modes or make other changes at any time.
- Visual DRC: Visual DRC gives you a viewport that goes around the mouse, and on top of each object, it shows an increase that matches its design rule clearance. This lets you see right away if the route being put can go where you want it to go. If it can’t, you can change the track style or push mode to make it fit through a small opening.
- Status Bar Messaging: Status Bar messages have been improved to show live route lengths, the current routing mode, route styles, and net details while routes are being placed and edited.
- Length Matched Tracks Viewer: A new view called “match group view” in the “parts bin” shows length-matched routes and how well they meet goal lengths in real time.
- PCB Design Software: Schematic Capture and PCB Layout modules work together in Download Proteus PCB Software to make a powerful, yet cheap, set of tools for professional PCB design.
- Built-in web search that lets you look up more than 15 million library parts on demand.
- Take care of different versions of a product from a single plan.
- The fully configurable BOM module lets you change the style and text of the BOM.
- A flexible method for design rules that works with design rule rooms.
- As usual, both the Push and Shove manual routing and the shape-based auto-router are built in.
- There is automatic skew correction, signal net setting, and differential pair routing mode.
- High Speed Design: Pair-wise differentiability and group length matching.
- Library Parts: 15 million library parts are ready to use and combined.
- Assembly Variants: Make and handle product variants easily.
- Report Generation: Dedicated reporting tool for keeping track of project information.
- Circuit Simulation Software: Mixed-mode SPICE simulation and the fastest microcontroller simulation in the world are both part of Proteus Virtual System Modelling (VSM). It lets you quickly make software prototypes of ideas for both hardware and firmware!
- Complete Embedded Workflow: For embedded engineers, Proteus VSM fills in the time between drawing up the schematic and laying out the PCB. It lets you write software and apply it to a supported microcontroller on the schematic. You can then co-simulate the program in a mixed-mode SPICE circuit simulation that includes MCU peripherals.
- Proteus VSM Environment: There’s a lot more to Proteus VSM than just a microcontroller emulator. It is a place for electronic designers to simulate, analyze, and fix bugs at the system level. You can see different parts of a Proteus Download example by clicking on the hotspots below.
- Design: Our tried-and-true Schematic Capture software is used by Proteus VSM to create a space for entering and developing designs. Proteus Schematic has been around for a long time and has strong editing tools that are easy to use. It can help with schematic recording for both simulation and PCB design. It is possible to netlist designs that have been put into Proteus VSM for testing with either our own PCB Design products or third-party PCB planning tools. ISIS also gives you a lot of control over how the drawing looks, including line lengths, fill styles, fonts, and more. The full range of these features is used to make the images needed for circuit animation.
- Simulation: The coolest and most important thing about Proteus VSM is that it can model how software running on a microcontroller talks to any analog or digital electronics that are connected to it. Along with the other parts of your product design, the microcontroller model is placed on the diagram. It acts like a real chip and runs your object code (also called machine code). The logic levels in the circuit change when the program code writes to a port, just like they do in real life. If the circuit changes the state of the processor’s pins, your program code will also see that.
- Measurement and Analysis: To name a few of the virtual instruments that come with Free Download Proteus VSM, they are an Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer, Function Generator, Pattern Generator, Counter Timer, Virtual Terminal, and simple voltmeters and ammeters. We also offer Master/Slave/Monitor mode protocol analyzers for SPI and I2C. To use them, just connect them to the serial lines and watch or change the data while the test is running. A really helpful (and cheap!) way to make sure your connection software works well before you start making hardware prototypes.
- Debugging: Proteus VSM is one of a kind because it can run models of whole microcontroller systems in almost real time. But what really makes it powerful is that it can do these simulations in single step mode. This is like your favorite software debugger, but as you step through the code, you can see how it changes the whole design, even the circuits that aren’t connected to the microcontroller.
- Diagnostics: There is a lot of diagnostic or trace messages on Proteus. At any given time, you can tell it which processor peripherals or parts of the processor are of interest, and you’ll get a full text report of all activity and system interaction. You can choose which embedded peripherals (like SPI and VIC) of the MCU you want to watch. You can also watch external peripherals like memory devices, LCD screens, and brushless motors.
- The VSM Advantage: The Proteus Design Suite is the only one that lets you model both high-level and low-level microcontroller code at the same time in a mixed-mode SPICE circuit simulation. With this Virtual System Modelling tool, you can really follow the agile development theory in embedded engineering projects. This will save you a lot of time and money on development costs.
- Front Panel Design: The design of the front panel is the interface you will see and use to control your appliance from your phone, computer, or web browser. In IoT builder, drawing is used to make the front screen design instead of writing code. When controls like buttons, displays, and knobs are added to the project, they are put on the panel in a way that works for the user.
- Program Control: The firmware program is where we need to talk to both the hardware parts of our device and the IoT controls on the front panel of our remote. The other way around needs to work too. For example, pressing a button on the front panel could turn on an LED in the appliance. At the same time, sensor data from the appliance could change a display on the front panel.
- Access Control: It’s also possible to set different levels of security for your IoT app. A login control lets a user become an administrator, and all the controls and tabs on the front panel can change how they work (stop, hide, etc.) depending on whether the user is logged in or not. You can also drag two events for logging in and logging out onto the main program. This makes it easy to react to changes in the user’s state that happen in the firmware program. In the context of a connected app, this makes it really simple to teach and learn about access control and user rights.
- Simulate and Debug: The Proteus VSM modeling technology in IoT Builder makes sure that both your firmware program and any electronics you add to the schematic are simulated. The remote user interface is also shown in Proteus, which makes it easy to test how your GUI works with your virtual hardware.
- Deploy: After fixing bugs and testing your system in a simulation, you can easily move it to the real hardware with the push of a button (Raspberry Pi needs to be set up just once, though). If your Arduino Yun, Uno+ESP8266, or Raspberry Pi hardware is on the same network as Proteus Latest Version, it can find it and set up the SSH choices for you. Because of this, you can usually send to the physical hardware with the touch of a button. If you’re using Arduino, you can also connect the Yun to your computer via a USB cable. This will make it show up as a programming object in your programmer.
- MQTT: This is what MQTT stands for: Message Query Telemetry Transport. It is a very simple and light messaging system for devices with limited space and networks with low bandwidth, high latency, or a lack of reliability. IoT Builder supports MQTT right out of the box, which makes it easy to set up systems with multiple devices and control how they talk to each other. You can use MQTT and Proteus to do two key things.
What’s New in Proteus?
- Push and Shove Route Editing: Route editing operations are now capable of moving other tracks and vias out of the way. This is a huge timesaver, whether you are nudging a via to make space or pushing tracks all the way to their design rule limit to tidy up the board.Push mode is now shared between placement and editing, with a single toggle (SHIFT+P) determining behaviour. When push mode is off route editing can still be design rule aware, giving you the ability to hug but not move other objects on the board.
- Diff Pair Routing: The differential pair routing algorithms have been improved in a few places, but most notably with the automatic start and termination. These will now attempt to route through components that are blocking the terminating pads as well as better handle rotated component terminations.
- Route Command Centre (Upgraded): Route command centre remains the control hub for all placement and editing operations. Push mode can be toggled on or off and now applies equally to both placement and editing of routes.
- Proteus VSM for MicroPython: We are pleased to announce that Proteus Download VSM for MicroPython has officially been launched! To simulate MicroPython, you will need Proteus 8.17 SP4 and a licence for VSM for MicroPython.
FAQs:
- What post-sales technical support do I get?
You can get it through your sales partner or dealer at first, but if you need to, you can also get it directly from head office. There is no extra charge for phone help at our head office in the UK or our office in North America, but if there are problems with a project, we may need to see the file(s) that are causing the issue. We are sure that you will find us helpful and informed about our subject since we wrote the software all by ourselves.
Please be aware that we will try to help with problems with earlier versions of the software, but there is a real end of life for these versions, and as they get older, the level of support will go down.
- Is a printed manual supplied with Proteus VSM Professional/Proteus PCB Design Professional?
For an extra fee outside of the UK, a “Getting Started” Guide can be sent. Orders placed online are sent electronically, and instructions are given as help files inside the downloaded program. With all of the Professional products, you also get context-aware help and thorough online help.
- Is there a recognised upgrade path for the Professional versions of the software?
Yes, all changes cost the difference in price between the package you want to switch to and the one you already have. Only thing is, you need to be up to date on the most recent major release of our program. Unless this is the case, you will need to pay to get the latest version and then the difference in price between levels as usual.
- Will your software produce files that I can send to a PCB manufacturer?
Yes. All versions of Download Proteus PCB Design Professional can make Gerber photoplot and Excellon drill files, which are the usual ways to do this in the business world. You can get output in both the older Extended Gerber (274X) format and the newer Gerber X2 format. The PCB design software also comes with a Gerber Viewer that lets you check that the Gerber artwork is right before sending it off to be made. Users of PCB Level 2 or higher can also choose to output in ODB++ format.
